St Augustine's COLOURFEST 2018

Saturday 30th June ~ 12noon until 4pm.
It is going to be a fantastically colourful day with lots to see and do & eat and drink - BBQ and bars, festival facepainting, bouncy castle, afternoon tea stall, tombola, toy pig racing, PLUS a local graffiti artist will be there making name plates - we are even staging a series of mini “Colour Runs” for all ages throughout the afternoon! We would love you all to be there to enjoy the day together as a Parish Community and to help us welcome many others from our wider community too and to raise much needed funds and local promotion for the Parish, the School, the Preschool & Uniformed Units. Thank you, from Fr Frank & the Summer Event Committee.

* RACE MARSHALLS NEEDED * We need your help! Could you volunteer to help with marshalling the colour run on the day? Can you help by coming along to the event, relaxing & enjoying the day, then popping on a ‘high viz’ jacket to help direct the runners for the short, fun, mini runs during the afternoon? Please contact the parish office if you can help.
* * Could you donate a bottle or a box of chocolates or an unwanted but new gift for our Tombola stall? Please bring any donations to the parish office  (PLEASE, NO 2nd hand items)
* * We would love donations on the afternoon before or morning of the event of bought or homemade, cakes or scones for the afternoon tea stall. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

What a fantastic day!

On Saturday 18th November it was another fantastic Community event at St Augustine's for the "Countdown to Christmas" Bazaar. With approx 375 visitors to our event all shopping, eating, drinking, trying their luck, decorating biscuits, having their face painted, spotting the Christmas trail, making Christmas Wishes and then telling them to Santa, it was a Wonderful Day!
Thank you to the community who came out and supported the event and to all the hardworking helpers and stallholders! Merry Christmas to you all!

Baaaa-rilliant fun!

The sun shone on our 'Country Fair' on Sat 4th July where the whole community got together in the grounds of the School for Farmyard Fun, a theme chosen to build on the excitement of the impending Shaun the Sheep trail in Bristol.
The school even made their own "St Augustine's Sheep" and the winning design was revealed in front of the 300 strong crowd that had turned up to help raise money for the School's PTFA, the Parish funds and for the Scouts and Guides Supporters Association.
Shaun the Sheep himself even made an appearance to open the fair and lead the Farmyard Fancy Dress Parade to the amusement of the children (and to the terror of others!) and with the School's own Brass Band playing and the Shaolin Kung Fu Academy performing, the visitors has plenty to keep them entertained.
The crowds met the animals from Brandon Trust's Mini Farm, had pony rides, played 'Moo-pla', Splat the rat, Coconut Shy and many other Countryside games as well as enjoying the delicious BBQ and afternoon teas, betting on a Pig Race and fiercely competing in the Tug O' War and Bouncy Animal Space Hopper races in the central arena!
There was even a Farmer's Market Marquee with local stallholders selling an amazing array of produce, from home made rough cider to home grown geraniums!
"Seeing a crowded field of families enjoying themselves whilst raising funds for our community groups is such a pleasure to witness! Even if I didn't manage to bag some of the horse manure for my roses as I'd hoped to!" said one of the team of organisers.
So many of our Parish Groups got involved, running stalls and helping with the planning etc. Not-so-Young club manned the entrance table, The Unit Leaders ran the BBQ, Youth Club ran the coconut shy, BBT's facepainting stall, Parish Projects 'Splat the Rat' and jewellery stall, Governors Tea Rooms, CWL Home Produce in the Farmers Market, the Teacher's ran the Tombola and many PTFA helpers and extra volunteers ran the other stall around the arena.
As this goes to print, it looks as if we have made £2,700 profit from the event, so together with the profits from the Prize Draw, each of the 3 groups will have made over £1,000 each for their funds.
Great work everyone!

St Nicholas Fayre

What another successful Christmas Community Event this year!
Our Annual Christmas Bazaar was held on Sat 6th December and was a bumper turn out for the community. We had many rooms within the school packed with stalls and games and amazing amounts of food to eat!
This year was Themed as “St Nicholas Fayre” and when Santa opened the Fayre by ringing his bell then we welcomed in over 400 visitors during the afternoon!
Various Parish Groups such as the Catholic Women’s League,  Toddler Group, Pre-school, Scouts & Guides & Youth Club ran the stalls, we had several outside companies with stalls for Christmas Shopping & 3 charity stalls with items on sale and games to play to raise money for The Great Western Air Ambulance, “Let the Children Live” and HCPT Pilgrimage Trust as well as many individual Parishioners helping out to give a fantastic array of things to do.
A great day together to help raise funds for the Parish. At last count it looks to have raised over £1,800! Thank you to everyone involved for the hard work and support.
Merry Christmas.

Lenten Lunch 2014

On Friday 4th April we held another successful Lenten Lunch in the Parish Hall bringing together many members of our community to share a meal together, donate to CAFOD and this week, as Rev David Brinn from CAFOD was with us to share his thoughts and knowledge of the charity, we held a 'bring a buy' sale to try to raise even more cash!
Our own Frank Murphy, pictured here with David, is going to hold a 24 hour fast on Good Friday to raise more much needed money for the work CAFOD do. We wish him well on this challenge.

Christmas Bazaar 2013

Saturday 7th December 2013 was our Annual Christmas Bazaar for the Parish - held in the Primary School.
We opened at noon offering lunch and Christmas Music with a Grand Entrance from Santa himself, ringing his bell and greeting the little ones (and bigger ones too!) before settling down in his spectacular grotto!
The cake stall run by the Catholic Womens' League, refreshments run by the Unit Leaders and Irish Coffees run by an elf named Petra, kept us all fed well and the games on offer, such as the two Tombola's run by the Toddler Group and the Guides, the Spinner and Key of the Door run by the Scouts kept everyone happy!

For the first time, we offered tables to 5 outside companies for Christmas Shopping, Gillie D's Traditional Country Crafts, Forever Living Aloe Vera Products, Flutterby Designs - unique jewellery, The Curious Cake Company -nappy and towel cake gifts and 'Made in the Temple' hand crafted Beanbag dolls.
We also had 3 charity stalls with crafts, gifts and homemade wreaths to buy - raising money for HCPT, Bone Marrow charity and for the 2 teenagers in the Parish who are off on the 'World Challenge Programme' to Peru next year. Also, for the first time Jean from CWL offered relaxing hand or foot massages for a moments tranquility in the hubbub of the day!

Other stalls included the Teddy Name Game run by the Brownie Leaders, sweets and decorations to by run by Jane, one of our Parishioners, the 'Piety Stall' selling Christmas cards, Advent Calendars and Religious gifts, the Bottle Stall run by the PTFA, Andrew and son's 2nd Hand Book sales, Clara and Elinor's Children's Book stall, Janet and Bill selling the Parish Prize Draw tickets and the Guides offering people to write a wish on an angel decoration to go up on the Christmas tree.

It was a wonderful example of our Parish Community coming together for a fun day, raising funds for the Parish. Thank you to everyone involved for all the hard work involved in making the day so successful. Money raised and a breakdown of the stall figures will be placed up on the notice board in the Narthex.

Merry Christmas!

Bumps, Babies and Toddler Group

*Currently not running*

This group was formed to provide an opportunity for carers with their under 5s to get together once a week and get to know others in the Parish.

A wide range of toys are available for free play for the children and tea/coffee is provided for the adults. The children also enjoy a storytime session with squash and a biscuit and we do regular craft activities.

As well as its weekly meetings the group also:
-Holds fund raising and social events
-Helps out at Parish events, the Christmas Bazaar, Soup Run and Lenten Lunches
-Supports various charities

Meetings are held during term time in the Parish Centre, on Friday mornings from 9-11.30am. New people are most welcome - members live in the area, they could be members of the parish or have children at St Augustine’s school or Pre-school. We encourage all to join in the social and fundraising events we hold and we have a committee of willing helpers – the more the merrier.

Please contact the Parish Office for more information and we will put you in touch with the current committee.

Fun at the end of Year BBT Party!
